Most professional posts in International Organizations (IOs) require
several years of experience and advanced degrees; however, there are a
few programs in place to help highly qualified students and young
professionals get their foot in the door.  Visit the links to the left
for more information about opportunities including internships, junior
professional officer/associate expert positions, and young professionals
programs. International Organizations sometimes offer fellowship
opportunities throughout the year; please check the specific
international organization of interest to verify.  If your background
does not fit the ideal description for these programs, please consider
gaining experience by working for a relevant non-governmental
organization, non-profit organization, or applying to volunteer with the
Peace Corps. International Organizations partner with different types
of organizations in the field whose application processes are typically
less competitive.  Building required technical and language skills and
potentially working hand in hand with UN officials in the field could
make your application at an International Organization more competitive
in the future.  Visit the websites of the UN and other IOs to learn more
about partnerships, as well as about consultant opportunities.
