 The position is open to Kenya citizens

Reporting to the National Director, the Safety and Security officer is responsible for coordination of safety and security elements in liaison with management and security service providers.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish operational plans for security management of the NO; analyze safety and security needs of the organization to recommend appropriate safety and security measures.
  • Ensure that all safety and security installations are in line with the standards of ChildFund’s safety and security standards, SOPs and contingency plans
  • Conduct threat assessments and risk analysis for the National Office and program sites and makes recommendations responding to mitigated measures
  • Align the NO security management system with global security management by ensuring the full contingency plan is implemented and maintained at all times at the NO and program sites
  • Build ongoing networks for coordination and sharing of security information.
  • Conduct security investigations as required and follow-up on security incidents to generate reports in line with policy and procedure
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Required Experience
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree in social sciences, security or related discipline
  • Security training in a military or police background
  • A certificate of good conduct
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar position working with INGOs
  • Excellent knowledge of organizational security, fire safety and first-aid
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural setting
  • Knowledge of MS Office computer software
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Swahili

Responsibilities:
The position is located in the Staff Development and Training Unit (SDTU) of the Human Resources Management Service (HRMS), Division of Administrative Services (DAS), at the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON). SDTU provides an extensive range of language and professional training courses for all staff working around the world for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), UN-Habitat and UNON.

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, SDTU, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

• Sorts and distributes or processes mail and other documents.
• Uses basic word processing skills to prepare forms and short documents (e.g. memos, letters, faxes, electronic mail, etc.).
• Receives phone calls and visitors and refers them to the appropriate source or reply personally to queries when possible.
• Photocopies a variety of documents and other materials.
• Delivers urgent mail/messages.
• Maintains unit files (paper and electronic).
• Operates a variety of office equipment in the performance of basic office functions, e.g. photocopier, printer, scanner, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Must have passed the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) or the Global General Service Test (GGST) at Headquarters or Offices Away from Headquarters.
Work Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years’ progressive experience in clerical and general office support or related area is required. Experience with the UN system is desirable.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Other Desirable Skills:
Good computer skills (Microsoft Office and other Windows Applications) required. Accurate typing skills required for the inputting of data into a database. The ability to access information in databases and to search for information on the internet.

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Systems Developer to design and develop different softwares and systems that will be used in field data collection. In addition the position holder will assist in capacity building of the different partners. She/he will liaise with different projects and teams who will be conducting sampling activities to ensure that their sampling needs in terms of hardware and software requirements are met.
ILRI works with partners worldwide to enhance the roles that livestock play in food security and poverty alleviation, principally in Africa and Asia. The outcomes of these research partnerships help people in developing countries keep their farm animals’ alive and productive, increase and sustain their livestock and farm productivity, find profitable markets for their animal products, and reduce the risk of livestock-related diseases. www.ilri.org

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and development of in-house systems that will be used in the biorepository and by different projects.
  • Maintain, secure and upgrade sample collection and tracking systems.
  • Ensure different databases and datasets that support the various systems are up to date.
  • Design and develop systems that ensures that data associated with samples are always running and meet the needs of the different partners.
  • Assist in data management of project data as collected by the different projects.
  • Ensure that all systems, databases and datasets are backed up on a regular basis and the backups are working.
  • Liaise with project teams to ensure that their sampling systems are running ok and are usable in a field setting.
  • Customizing of developed systems and softwares to keep up with the ever changing IT field.
  • Training of partners and project teams in the developed systems and softwares.
Requirements
  • BSc.in Computer Science.
  • Strong systems development skills and excellent data management skills.
  • Entry level knowledge of biology is desirable but not a must.
  • Good understanding of web based systems, mobile application and systems.
  • Hardworking, responsible and responsive.
Terms of Appointment
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus. It is open to Kenyan nationals only.
Duration: The position is on temporary basis for 3 months.
Job Level: This position is job level 2B.
