Casework Assistant (Short-Term)

SCOPE OF WORK: Provide administrative and logistical assistance to the Case Management team to ensure that client services are provided and documented in a timely and efficient manner and in-keeping with donor regulations.  This position reports to the Casework Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assist in preparing documents for new arrivals and faxing information to appropriate agencies.Review existing case files to ensure that required documentation is present and well organized, and prepare files for closure Assist in referring clients to local resources or other social service programs. Assist Case Management team with the completion of comprehensive service plans for each case. Assist Case Manager Supervisor in ensuring that required reports and case notes are submitted in a timely and accurate manner.Participate in quarterly public consultations, weekly staff meetings and other meetings as needed. Provide transportation to clients for necessary core services activities.Provide core services assistance to clients, case noting, logging activities into ETO (computerized database), and staffing cases as needed with coworkers.Other related duties as assignedREQUIREMENTS:

·         Some formal education in related field; B.A./B.S. preferred

·         Some previous professional work experience in job development or with refugees;

·         Fluency in written and spoken English, bilingual ability preferred;

·         Computer literacy, data base experience preferred; Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite preferred

·         Ability to effectively communicate and work as a team member in a cross-cultural environment; and

·         Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.

·         Valid Driver’s License, Active Insurance Policy and Reliable Transportation

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

·         Typical Office Environment

·         Some travel in and around service delivery area

·         Occasional work hours in the evening and weekends

·         Ability to lift light loads (approximately 25 lbs)

Extended Services Casework Intern Summer 2014 (Unpaid)

COMMITMENT: Applicants must be able to commit to 16-24 hours per week for at least three months. Preference is given to candidates currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate course of study. PLEASE ONLY APPLY IF YOU ARE ABLE TO MAKE THIS COMMITMENT AND IF YOU SPEAK SPANISH OR ARABIC.

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: This intern will work with refugees and other humanitarian entrants up to five years after they have arrived in the United States. The intern will complete intake forms and help newly arrived refugees, asylees and Cuban/Haitian entrants access needed benefits and services. The intern will support clients to achieve their long-term goals and move from surviving to thriving.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  
•    Complete intake forms with clients up to 5 years after arrival in the US to assess needs and refer to appropriate programs.
•    Research and identify programs and resources that enable refugees to meet their long-term educational, employment and life goals.
•    Ensure interaction with clients is documented in case notes and conduct follow up with clients by phone and in person.
•    Input client information in database and assist with tracking and reporting as necessary.
•    Perform reception duties such as greeting visitors to the office and connecting them to appropriate staff.
•    Provide translation and interpretation when necessary.
•    Assess immigration documentation of clients to determine program eligibility.
•    Display sensitivity to cultural and personality differences of refugee clients.  Respect their beliefs and values.  
•    Adhere to IRC policies, particularly those related to confidentiality and client privacy.  
•    Other related duties as assigned, including answering and directing incoming phone calls.

REQUIREMENTS:
•    Undergraduate level studies in social sciences, international relations or related field.
•    Must speak English and Spanish or Arabic
•    Strong desire to help refugees rebuild their lives in New Jersey.
•    Excellent attention to detail and effective communication skills.
•    Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
•    Patience, understanding, flexibility, and an unceasingly positive attitude
•    Willing to learn about IRC history, philosophy, global work, and local efforts.
•    Willing to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies.

This position reports to the Family Support Assistant.
