About the Position: Tooele Army Depot is located approximately 45 miles West of Salt Lake City, Utah. The Depot is in Tooele County and surrounded by the communities of Tooele, Grantsville, Stockton, and Rush Valley. The area surrounding the depot is as an urban center for a highly varied and productive agriculture industry. The depot is 42,974 acres and currently serves the missions of conventional ammunition storage, maintenance, demilitarization, and ammunition peculiar equipment. The depot was constructed in 1942 in an area with a historical tradition of Indian cultures. Originally the depot was known as the Tooele Ordnance Depot, which functioned as a storage depot for World War II supplies, ammunition, and combat vehicles. Currently, the depot has maintained the certification of ISO 9001:2000, incorporated the LEAN and Six Sigma structure, and are ready for new missions for not only the Army, but all services of Department of Defense, and partnerships with private industry.

As a Motor Vehicle Operator (Materials Handler) you will operate gasoline/diesel-powered truck tractor with semi-trailer, Strad-O-Lift trailer, or van to haul high explosives/munitions/components. Load/block/secure cargo ensuring even weight distribution, items do not shift, load does not exceed vehicle capacity & items are safe for transfer. Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles. Fill out trip tickets. Observe traffic/safety laws. Load/unload cargo. Segregate items according to condition code, lot number, quantity. Store/stack/palletize items. Determine proper storage/destination location. Assemble/slect items for issue/movement. Check items condition before movement/warehousing. Items include high explosives, ammunition components, guided missiles, rockets, etc. Provides information/changes to storage location data cards, planographs, shipping documents, & ammunition transfer records. Responsible for storage location keys used. Operate electric/gasoline powered fork lift capable of lifting less than 10,000 pounds.

Experience Required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Screen Out Element: Operated a diesel-powered truck tractor with semi-trailer to haul cargo. I have operated a forklift.

Work is performed where there is unpleasant dust, dirt, fumes. and noise from truck operations. Subject to cuts. scratches, and bruises from loading or unloading vehicles; and also to possible serious injury resulting from traffic accidents.

Ability to do the work of a Mobile Equipment Servicer (Materials Handler) without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out element to be considered further. To meet the screen out elements applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: servicing a wide variety of automotive, heavy mobile and powered support equipment; completing preventive maintenance and work order services on vehicles and equipment to include checking fluid parts and components; removing, repairing and replacing tires of all sizes; and collecting, preparing, posting and shipping oil samples; performing warehousing tasks, such as: picking up or unloading items received; checking items received for damage or discrepancies against purchase order and receipt documents; placing items in bins or storage areas; assisting with inventories, moving, stacking, or un-stacking palletized items; loading items in vehicles for transport; and maintaining warehousing files and reports.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas:

· Knowledge of engine repair

· Knowledge of motor vehicles

· Knowledge of warehouse procedures

Physical Effort Required: Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require the worker to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, material and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds.

Working Conditions: Works inside in areas that are cold, damp, drafty or poorly lighted and ventilated. May work in adverse weather in such outside areas as open docks and storage yards. Is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises and broken bones.

Performs a wide range of warehousing activities, including receiving, storing, and shipping a variety of supplies, materials, equipment and resale merchandise.  Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments/trucks.  Reports over, short, or damaged conditions.  Completes and signs shipping and receiving reports.  Routes material and equipment to correct locations or storage areas.  Stacks, bins, rotates and marks/prices stock in accordance with standard warehouse procedures.  Locates, accesses, loads, and moves material for shipment and verifies or prepares documents either manually or by using automated equipment such as computer terminals and bar code wands to read, store, track and prepare materials documentation.  May operate warehouse tractors, fork lifts, tugs and trucks, and other general purpose vehicles and perform routine operator maintenance.  Counts types and quantities of items during inventories.  Recounts or searches other storage locations to assist in determining the basis for over, short, or misplaced items.  

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.  Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.  Adheres to safety regulations and standards.  Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.  Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.  Performs other related duties as required.

Skills and Knowledge:  Knowledge of overall warehousing plan and accepted warehousing methods, procedures, and techniques of material handling.  Ability to operate mechanized equipment including utility vehicles, forklifts, mobile stock selectors, and automated equipment such as, optical readers, scanners and computer keyboards.  Ability to process and independently complete shipping and receiving documents to insure correctness of quantities, identification criteria, and labeling.  Skill in stacking, moving, and arranging items on pallets using pallet measuring gauges and automated devices to insure proper height, weight, and other load and storage requirements are met.  Driver's license is required.

RESPONSIBILITY:  Receives general instructions from supervisor.  Assignments are completed within the general warehousing plan and without instructions on the methods, procedures, or techniques to use.  Observes all required safety procedures.  Work is reviewed for compliance with general guidelines and results achieved.  

PHYSICAL EFFORT:  Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.  Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.

Prior active duty military members must provide their DD 214 Member 4 copy (long form) with separation details at the time of application.

Involuntarily separated members of the armed forces and eligible family members applying through the Transition Assistance Program must submit a written request/statement (may be obtained from the MCCS Human Resources Office) and present ID card with “TA” stamped in red on front of card.
