Appointment against this post is on a local basis. External candidates will be considered only when no suitable internal candidate from the duty station is identified. Responsibilities:
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. UNON supports the programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services. The post is located in the Division of Conference Services (DCS) under the direct supervision of the Chief Publishing Services Section at the Nairobi duty station.

Summary of Principal functions:
Operate various assembly, binding and finishing equipment including pocket or station collators, semi-automated perfect binders, programmable guillotine paper cutter, paper drills, heavy duty wire stitchers, laminating and mounting devices, perforators, scoring, numbering devices and three-knife book trimmer, to produce assembled, bound, and finished documents, publications, and other printed materials.
Responsibilities:
- Operate folding, stitching, binding, cutting, laminating, mounting, perforating, and scoring machines in the Binding and finishing Unit to complete production of documents, publications, etc. in the section.
- Bind single sheets, documents, magazines, etc. into books by hand or by other specific methods of binding e.g., gluing, spiral) bound, hand-sewn.
- Perform basic maintenance such as cleaning, greasing, oiling and trouble-shooting of bindery and finishing related equipment to ensure a clean, functional, and safe working area.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Supervisor or Chief PSS as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Completion of secondary school education is required. Supplemental course in printing technology or other related field desirable.
Work Experience:
A minimum of four years of experience in binding and finishing of printed materials or related fields required.
Languages:
English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN Language is an advantage.
Other Desirable Skills:
Good computer skills Proficiency in MS office applications is desirable.
