This position is located at the Navy Public Works Center (PWC), San Diego.  The incumbent of this position will inspect, repair, adjust and maintain a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning units and systems.

You must be a US Citizen.Must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal & Regulatory Guidance.Suitable for Federal employment as determined by background investigation.Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period. ·       Replacing belts, fans, and fuses to ensure proper operation of refrigeration and air conditioning units.

·       Tightening connections, making splices, insulating exposed wires, and cleaning/lubricating moving parts to maintain/repair refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems.

·       Planning work and selecting the proper tools/testing devices to accomplish repairs according to accepted trade practices.

The Screen-out Element for this position is:  Ability to do the work of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision such as: 1) assisting with the installation of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment; 2) interpreting instructions, specifications, and blueprints to repair air conditioning units and/or refrigeration systems; 3) using hand tools, test equipment and instruments; 4) detecting leaks on equipment; 5) diagnosing and locating malfunctions; 6) replacing and/or cleaning filters; and 7) working with refrigerants in accordance with EPA standards.

REQUIREMENTS: Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.

Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Applicants must be willing to be subject to an extensive background investigation to determine fitness for employment.

Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Selectee must possess a current, valid United States Driver's License.

Selectee must possess a valid, universal type EPA Refrigerant Certification.

Position may require special certification or licensing to perform work or to use specialized tools or equipment, such as Fork Lift, High Lift (JLG) and/or Construction equipment.

Use of appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment to minimize/eliminate hazardous conditions is required.

Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position.

Work requires lifting from 35 to 100lbs with the assistance of hoists, dollies, hand trucks, and cranes and occasional lifting up to 45lbs without mechanical assistance.

Kneeling, crouching, stooping, bending, and climbing are required to perform duties.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
