Responsibilities:
Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships: The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This post is located in the French Language Unit in the Division of Conference Services (DCS).

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Unit, the incumbent will perform the following duties;
(These duties are generic and may not be carried out by all Translators.)

• Translates, subject to revision, documents including summary records covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations, i.e., political, social, legal, economic, financial, administrative, scientific and technical.
• Attends meetings as part of a team, takes notes either directly from statements delivered in the languages of competence or from the interpretation and subsequently uses the notes to produce draft summary records, subject to revision.
• Identifies new terminology material and submits it for consideration of the revisers.
• Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status
Work Experience:
A minimum of two years of translation experience
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised perfect command of the language of the Unit which must be the candidate’s primary language
