Communication and Public Affairs (CPA) Office
Cabinet and External Relations (CER) Department

welcome.  The  statutory  retirement age  after  1  January  2014  is  65.  For external
applicants, only those who are expected to complete the term of
appointment will normally be considered.





DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the  supervision of  the  Editor, the  incumbent will  perform the following duties:

(a)         English editing of WMO web content: review new and existing content across the WMO
website and articulate it in a more user-friendly, consistent and engaging style; proof-read and
check accuracy of language to comply with WMO brand image;

(b)         Enhance website functionality, suggest creative ways to display content and  improve
navigation; make  recommendations on web architecture and page layout to optimize user experience
across platforms;

(c)          Moderate online community and enhance WMO social media presence in close collaboration
with the WMO Media Officer;

(d)         Train and assist web focal points and content providers in the use of Content
Management Systems (CMS), templates and writing for the web; liaise with them about maintaining
their parts of the website fresh and up-to-date;

(e)       Copy-editing/layout  of  MeteoWorld,  Bulletin  and  other publications;

(f)          Liaise with language services in order to maintain the website up-to-date in all
languages;

(g)         Coordinate  with  language  services  and  other  parties  for translation and printing
of CPA publications;

(h)         Maintain an up-to-date WMO Web Style Guide; (i)           Carry out other relevant
duties as required.





QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized university in English or
Communications.

Experience

At least three years of national and international progressively responsible experience in English
web editing, publications and social media.

Other requirements

Excellent  English  oral  and  written  communication  skills.  Ability  to  edit technical reports
and documents. Excellent knowledge of website architecture and maintenance, sense of
responsibility, maturity of judgment, initiative and creativity. Excellent knowledge of Content
Management Systems (CMS), Adobe Creative Suite and InDesign. Ability to foster team spirit and to
work in a multicultural environment.

Languages

Excellent knowledge of English and a good working knowledge of French. Knowledge of other official
languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note:  the  working  languages  of  the  WMO  Secretariat  are  English  and French. The official
languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)

*   The Secretary-General may appoint a candidate at a grade below the advertised grade of the post, with the possibility of promotion to that grade within three years of appointment, subject to satisfactory appraisal of performance.
**  Possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of  one year, which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.

SALARY, ALLOWANCES AND OTHER BENEFITS

Annual net base salary on initial appointment is     US$ 49,916 for staff members with dependants
US$ 46,819 for staff members without dependants
Annual post adjustment on initial salary is US$ 53,859 for staff members with dependants
US$ 50,518 for staff members without dependants
This post adjustment, which is subject to change without notice, is paid in addition to the net basic salary.
