The United Nations is central to
global efforts to solve problems which challenge humanity. Cooperating in this effort are
more than 30 affiliated organizations, known together as the UN system. Day in and day
out, the UN and its family of organizations work to promote respect for human rights,
protect the environment, fight disease, foster development and reduce poverty. UN agencies
define the standards for safe and efficient transport by air and sea, help improve
telecommunications and enhance consumer protection, work to ensure respect for
intellectual property rights and coordinate allocation of radio frequencies. The United
Nations leads the international campaigns against drug trafficking and terrorism.
Throughout the world, the UN and its agencies assist refugees and set up programmes to
clear landmines, help improve the quality of drinking water and expand food production,
make loans to developing countries and help stabilize financial markets.
The United Nations are seeking
qualified collaborators in different professional categories.
The United Nations shall place no restrictions on the eligibility of men and women to participate in any capacity and under conditions of equality in its principal and subsidiary organs. (Charter of the United Nations - Chapter 3, article 8).

WorldTeach
WorldTeach is
a non-profit, non-governmental organization that provides opportunities for individuals to
make a meaningful contribution to international education by living and working as
volunteer teachers in developing countries.
WorldTeach
was founded by a group of Harvard students in 1986, in response to the need for
educational assistance in developing countries. It also addressed a growing interest among
people in the U.S. and elsewhere to serve, teach and learn as volunteers overseas. Since
its inception, WorldTeach has placed thousands of volunteer educators in communities
throughout Asia, Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe and the Pacific.
Based at the Center for
International Development at Harvard University, WorldTeach offers the benefits of a
well-established volunteer organization, while also providing more comprehensive,
personalized support and training as a small NGO. In each of our programs,
volunteers are placed in schools and host communities in developing countries that
specifically request WorldTeach volunteers and would otherwise be unable to afford or
locate qualified teachers. Volunteers receive training, language preparation, and
field support, empowering them to make an impact that will last long after they leave.
We invite you to join the
growing community of volunteers by becoming a WorldTeach teacher!

The Urban
Institute measures effects,
compares options, shows which stakeholders get the most and least, tests conventional
wisdom, reveals trends, and makes costs, benefits, and risks explicit. Economists, public
policy analysts, lawyers, statisticians, urban planners, demographers, sociologists,
political scientists, communications experts, and other specialists make up Urban
Institute's staff. With such diverse expertise, we can breach academic boundaries as
needed and blend qualitative and quantitative analyses. Equally important, at the
Institute teams often complete many projects together, building institutional depth. We
also collaborate with outside researchers and other institutions and work in partnerships
with federal, state, and local agencies.
Careers
A job can make a difference. Since 1968, thousands of UI employees and affiliated scholars have taken part in national debates, ranging from lack of health coverage to the failure of high schools to graduate more minorities. Our studies have influenced numerous policy decisions, including how the homeless are counted, how government measures discrimination, and who pays at tax time. The nonpartisan research we conduct is important to people of every background. We encourage you to consider a career with us.

Our mission is
to transform the way the world deals with conflict: away from adversarial approaches,
toward cooperative solutions.
Although the
world is overly polarized and violence is much too prevalent, we remain essentially
optimistic. Our view is that, on the whole, history is moving in positive directions.
Although some of the conflicts we are currently dealing with may seem intractable, there
are successful examples of cooperative conflict resolution that we can look to for
inspiration - such as in South Africa, where an unjust system was transformed through
negotiations and an inclusive peace process.

ACORD
was established in 1976 as a consortium of international agencies headquartered in the
North to provide its members with operational capacity to address poverty issues resulting
from the drought in sub-Saharan Africa. By 2001, ACORD was implementing 45 long-term
community-based development programmes in 17 countries in Africa focusing primarily on
poverty alleviation. Throughout its history, it remained independent of political or
religious orientation.
ACORD
has now refocused its vision, profile and strategic orientation. Based on a joint
analysis with its partners of the issues and challenges that are currently facing Africa,
and backed by its reputation and experience for cutting edge research and development
practice, it is building its future as a genuinely international Africa-led alliance of
groups and individuals addressing aspects of rights and social justice that underlie the
poverty of those on the fringes of African societies. ACORD now seeks to go beyond
addressing the consequences of poverty to understanding, challenging and changing the
conditions that cause poverty and exclusion through a global programme that unites
practical work with advocacy. ACORD believes that people have a right to a just and equal
society, and it is committed to making that right a reality.
