Head of Service Management – South

You will play a leading role in Place2Be’s life-changing work: you’ll manage Place2Be services in schools across the South region, safeguarding the highest standards in everything we do. You’ll provide positive, people-focused line management and clinical supervision to locally-based Place2Be Service Managers, help to build capacity in line with our business plan, and make sure our teams have the resources they need to support children and families as effectively as possible.
You’ll need outstanding communication skills, proven operational delivery experience and an advanced professional qualification in counselling or psychotherapy, registered and/or accredited with a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP or HCPC). A track record in successfully managing others is essential, and you will be adept at building partnerships effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Job Description
Job Title:  Head of Service Management (South)
Reporting to:  Head of Clinical Services
Location:  Core Hub, London
Overall Purpose of the Job
To lead and manage all aspects of the field based service for the South in line with the quality standards set by the organisation. To play an active role as a key member of Service Management Operational team

1.0 Accountability
Reporting to:   Head of Clinical Services
Supervises:     Service Managers, Peripatetic (Project) Manager(s)
Scope of Role: Over 100 schools including all service options

2. Main Duties and Responsibilities:
2.1 Management of Service Delivery
  • To ensure that clinical work and quality remains central to our work and ethos
  • To take responsibility for the work with children and families through direct line management and clinical supervision of the locally based Service Managers
  • To ensure that Place2Be’s Policies and Procedures are effectively implemented and contribute to keeping them updated
  • To build and develop the field based service management teams for the South – employees and volunteer counsellors - ensuring appropriate training, succession and emergency cover plans are in place and that resources are available to meet service commitments
  • To monitor quality of service being provided and ensure standards are met or exceeded through active management and monitoring of individual and team performances
  • To work with the Training Team and other Core Hub teams to ensure that Service Managers and Cluster Managers are trained and developed to enable them to provide a high quality service
  • To represent Place2Be at appropriate meetings e.g. Head Teachers, AGMs, Steering Groups and meetings with key funders or stakeholders
  • Where schools exit the service to ensure that the clinical work ends appropriately and that staff and key stakeholders are consulted and advised as necessary
2.2 Safeguarding
  • To ensure that field based staff and volunteer counsellors in the South are recruited, trained and monitored in line with the organisation’s quality standards for safeguarding.
  • To ensure that the Policies and Procedures in respect of safeguarding are complied with and to contribute to any updating as required.
  • Working closely with the Head of Safeguarding to ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are maintained and followed across southern operations.
2.3 Development
  • To work with the Head of Clinical Services and the Business Development team in building capacity and onboarding new schools and services in line with the business plan
  • Building and sustaining links with key local stakeholders in targeted geographical areas
  • Ensuring that services are offered and extended in line with the agreed strategic priorities and that pilots are managed and monitored
  • To actively promote the organisation through presentations and meetings with key stakeholders.
2.4 Finance and Funding
  • To supply information for funding applications and bids
  • To engage with funders and potential funders in the South in liaison with the fundraising team
  • To work with the Head of Clinical Services and the Finance team in managing spend against budget for the North/South
2.5 Reporting
  • To provide regular reports to Head of Clinical Services and in response to other requests in a timely manner
  • To provide information for reporting to funders and other external partner organisations
  • To work with and support the Research and Evaluation team in their requirements for information from the field
2.6 General
  • To keep up to date with developments in the sector and key government initiatives in our field of operation
  • To contribute widely across all areas of the organisation as a senior member of the Operations team
  • To support and nurture the Place2Be values of Perseverance, Integrity, Compassion and Creativity
  • To work as a team member of the organisation as a whole sharing information and best practice openly and productively
  • Working with the Communications team to write interactions with external parties, such as blogs regarding the work of Place2Be.
2.7 Flexibility
This job description if a general outline of the duties and responsibilities which may be subject to amendment as Place2Be itself develops. The post holder may be required to undertake other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.

Person Specification
The person specification outlines the main criteria for the post and short-listing will be based on the following criteria. Please ensure that your supporting statement clearly shows how you meet the criteria using experience gained either in paid or voluntary work.
A senior therapist or counsellor highly experienced in significant operations delivery and strategic development
Holds a recognised, advanced, professional qualification in counselling or therapy with relevant registration and/or accreditation e.g. BACP, UKCP, HCPC
Ideally has experience of working in schools
Brings successful record of clinical service delivery to children in a variety of settings
Has successfully managed large scale implementation projects involving multiple stakeholders and rigorous deadlines
Has a track record of delivering exceptional performance and quality through leading or working within high performing teams 
Is fluent in finance and management of budgets
Has strong entrepreneurial skills and experience of sales / business development - demonstrates a flexible, ‘can-do’ approach
Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate and influence others through both verbal and written media and demonstrates the ability to build effective partnerships
Brings the ability to represent Place2Be at the highest level to schools, sponsors, partner organisations and funders; managing prospective client expectations and keeping promises
Uses own initiative and pays close attention to detail whilst keeping hands on problem-solving approach to generate ideas and solutions

Ability to work outside office hours and travel within the UK - own transport required
