ILRI seeks to recruit Accountant – Budget and Hosted Institutes who will be a member of the Finance team under Corporate Services Division in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
General:  The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works at the crossroads of livestock and poverty, bringing high-quality livestock science, communications and capacity building to bear on poverty reduction and sustainable development. ILRI has campuses in Kenya (headquarters) and Ethiopia, with other offices located in Africa (Botswana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, Uganda) as well as Asia (China, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka).
CGIAR is a global agricultural research partnership for a food-secure future. Its science is carried out by 15 research centres that are members of the CGIAR Consortium in collaboration with hundreds of partner organizations. http://www.cgiar.org.
Main Duties:
  • Verifies the correctness and appropriateness of accounting transactions and inputs same in to the computer system;
  • Ensures that accounts of the Hosted Institutes and Addis/NBO Current accounts are well managed;
  • Prepares monthly invoices, financial reports / statement of accounts for the above clients  as well as reconciliations of accounts;
  • Ensures that petty cash, cash on hand, accounts receivables and accounts payables are reconciled with the exception of staff advances;
  • Bank reconciliations for all foreign and local bank accounts -Ensuring that entries into ILRI’s accounts are legitimate through bank reconciliation;
  • Consolidates the budget of the support/operations units and prepares monthly management reports.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration from a recognized university or college. Completion of ACCA or equivalent is a plus.
Experience:
  • At least 5 years relevant work experience post qualification at least in part of an International NGO or an International organisation.

  • Very organized and methodical
  • Self-starter, initiative and sound problem-solving capacity

  • Flexible and enjoys challenges
  • Superior problem solving skill
  • Experience with a computerized financial systems
  • Interest for agricultural research for development or development work
  • Must be  an IT literate in use of Microsoft packages and conversant with ERP application software such as Agresso Business World used for financial management and integration systems
Duty Station:        Addis Ababa.
Grade:              2C.
Minimum Base:     Birr 11,871 (Negotiable, depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)
Terms of appointment:  These are Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) positions, initial appointment is fixed term for two years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc.
The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus on the outskirts of Addis Ababa.  Dining and sports facilities are located on site.

MAIN DUTIES:
  • To analyze and journalize all transactions of purchases, issues disposals of consumable stocks items, pharmaceuticals; fixed assets, etc.;
  • Maintains up-to-date fixed asset register & Inventory Control system to   ensure proper control & safe guarding of the institute’s stocks and assets;
  • Organizes & conducts inventory of fixed assets & stock items. Investigates report findings. Prepare fixed assets & stock schedules;
  • Handles ILRI personal, travel and benefit accounts;
  • Prepares fixed asset lead schedule and detailed supporting schedules & reconciliation for review and approval by Supervisor;
  • Consults and assists Main and Sub-Stores in developing improved methods of handling stock and fixed asset records.
