Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Chief of the Social Statistics Section of the Statistics Division, the Statistician will be responsible for the following duties:

Organizes, designs, plans and carries out the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of statistical data in the areas of poverty, income distribution and other social indicators by selecting methods of data collection, selecting and implementing methods for checking collected data, and selecting and implementing appropriate methods for data processing for incorporation into databases.Conducts analysis of social information and prepares statistical and analytical documents, using appropriate quantitative models.Supervises the processing of information from household surveys and the harmonization of data.Provides training and technical support on household surveys collection programmes, country practices and other related information.Participates in the development or revision of standards on statistical concepts, definitions and classifications by performing methodological research.Prepares draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assists in drafting relevant reports.Organizes and participates in seminars, working groups and expert meetings as a technical resource person.Guides trains and supervises general service staff.Performs other duties as assigned.

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of statistical data or related area is required. Experience in processing and analyzing household surveys is required. Experience in conducting surveys is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written Spanish and intermediate knowledge of English are required.

HelpAge is now looking to recruit a Regional Resource Development Manager who will support the development, successful implementation and monitoring of the LAC programme fundraising and donor diversification strategy; as well as strengthen the HelpAge International network in the region, by identifying opportunities for future development, defining resource needs and strategies for meeting them and steer the growth of restricted and unrestricted income of HelpAge and its sister-organisations and affiliates in the region from major multi-lateral, bilateral, trusts and foundations, corporate donors and other innovative sources of funding by undertaking donor intelligence, providing advice and technical support to the development of high quality programmes that meet donor priorities.

Based in the newly established regional office in Santiago, Chile, you will develop and implement a regional fundraising strategy and annual plans; research, identify, and develop donor funding opportunities, at country and regional levels; support and facilitate the development of high quality funding proposals, including budgets, for submission to a range of donors; and support the development of national partners in grants management and fundraising.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of working with institutional donors and/or trusts and foundations or corporate donors operating in the region. You will also have direct experience of representing organisations in meetings with donors, government officials and project partners as well as experience of planning, writing, reviewing, and presenting project proposals, formal applications and donor reports. Fluency in English and Spanish, with excellent communication skills on the telephone, in writing and face to face, is also essential for this role.

The internship in the OHCHR's Regional Office for South America will last 6 months, depending on the needs of the Division/Section. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an 'as-needed' basis.

Interns are expected to work on a full-time basis (work five days per week; 35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Division/Section to which they are assigned, but they may undertake flexible working arrangements, subject to certain conditions.

The internship is UNPAID. All costs of travel and accommodation, including living expenses, must be covered by the intern or any relevant sponsoring institution.

The internship in the Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning (ILPES) will last 2 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the Division/Section. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an 'as-needed' basis.

The Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning (ILPES) is a permanent body with its own identity within the system of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). Responsibilities

Responsibilities

Economic or sector analysis

Develops socio-economic databases and qualitative information necessary for studies and analysis of fiscal data in particular.Interprets, applies and, as necessary, adapts econometric models to determine trends, patterns and relationships and to analyse the effects of fiscal policies and assumptions.Drafts specified inputs for technical papers and analytical studies on global, regional, national or sector aspects of fiscal policy and economic development.Identifies and analyses policy proposals relating to assigned topics.Attends international, regional, and national meetings to collect information and to hold discussions with colleagues in other institutions.Assists in the organization and servicing of expert group meetings, seminars, etc. on development issues.Prepares speeches and other inputs for presentations by senior staff.
