Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Logistics Support Division under the Department of Field Support. The Chief of Air Transport Section reports to the Director of Logistics Support Division.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Director Logistics Support Division, the incumbent is responsible for
Leads, supervises and carries out the work programme of the Air Transport Section (ATS) under his/her responsibility including the management of air transportation contracts. Co-ordinates the work carried out by different work units within ATS and by other agencies and bodies of the United Nations system; provides programmatic/substantive reviews of the drafts prepared by others.Co-ordinates and oversees the preparation of reports for presentation to intergovernmental bodies such as the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budget Questions, Committee for Programme Coordination, Economic and Social Council, the General Assembly and other policy-making organs related to ATS, as appropriate.Reports to intergovernmental bodies on budget/programme performance or on programmatic/ substantive issues related to ATS, as appropriate, particularly those presented in biannual and/or annual reports.Ensures that the outputs produced by ATS maintain high-quality standards; that reports are clear, objective and based on comprehensive data. Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Senior Audit Assistant is responsible for the following duties
Examines detailed financial and/or processing documents to ensure conformity with established rules and regulations. Computes, calculates, verifies, tabulates and analyses data.Compiles a variety of pre-audit information for both financial and operational audits of specified operations and/or transactions.Undertakes audit interviews with supervisory and line personnel working within various operations in order to establish procedures and practices. A minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience in administration, budget, finance, human resources management, or related field of which, at least five (5) years in managerial positions at the international level is required.Experience in managing financial resources and grants is required.Experience in strategic human resources advisory functions in a large multicultural organization is required.Experience with the work of the United Nations or any other comparable international organization, especially in the economic and social fields, is required.Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required.Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.Assessment Method
