About the Agency

This position located in the Assistant Director, Field Operations (West), Seattle Field Division in Seattle, Washington.

Serves as the Director, Industry Operations (DIO). In this capacity, the selectee in conjunction with the Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) and the Special Agent in Charge (SAC), is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating comprehensive firearms and explosives regulatory programs throughout the Field Division. As principal advisor to the SAC, the DIO assesses the effectiveness of regulatory programs and policies in meeting Bureau goals, and the effect of these goals on the industries regulated by the Bureau; provides expert advice on firearms and explosives trafficking investigations; and serves as Bureau representative and spokesperson in meetings with Congressional staffs; high-level officials from Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies; and representatives of foreign governments, business executives, and other representatives of the private sector on the most significant industry operations issues.

Develops and oversees implementation of operations, programs, policies, standards and other measures pertaining to industry operations.

Oversees regulatory investigations/inspection programs related to firearms and explosives, and provides regulatory expertise for collateral law enforcement investigations.

Evaluates industry trends.

Directs a staff of Industry Operations Investigators (supervisory and non-supervisory) and related administrative and clerical support personnel.

Represents upper management in meetings with Congressional staff within assigned Congressional districts to provide program briefings, explain legislation and resolve significant constituent complaints or problems pertaining to industry operations.

To qualify for the GS-15: You must have at least one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-14 Federal grade level. Specialized experience for the position is defined as experience which must demonstrate that you possess appropriate experience in the qualities of successful supervision (manage resources such as; plan, organize and prioritize; lead others; communicate orally and in writing; relate to others; negotiate and collaborate). Have a thorough knowledge of the full range of procedures, regulations, and practices pertaining to investigative research and analytical studies in support of the industry operations mission, i.e., experience of analytical and evaluative methods and techniques in order to identify statistical trends, prepare reports and identify leads; experience with database systems and interrelationships of Federal, State and local database systems in order to research data, determine trends and compile statistical information.
