Save the Children’s Role In Regional Processing Centres:

Save the Children will provide education, recreation and welfare services for children, families and vulnerable women sent to Nauru by the Australian Government.

Our experience shows that sending children to offshore or onshore immigration processing centres threatens their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. But given that the Australian Government is sending children to Nauru and given our mandate to the world’s most vulnerable children, we will work to ensure the best possible conditions and services for children on Nauru.

About the Role:

The role of a Caseworker is to provide high quality support services to Adults held at the Australian government’s Nauru Regional Processing Centre (NRPC). The Caseworker is responsible in implementing, assessing, and reviewing individual case plans and referring to other resources inside the offshore processing centre to help safeguard the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing of adult asylum seekers on the NRPC.

About you:

•Minimum of two years’ experience and or qualifications in complex case management within a social services context.

•Strong conceptual and practical knowledge of case management practices.

•Proven experience in engaging with people who have suffered torture and trauma.

•Demonstrated application of the knowledge and understanding of the asylum seeker/refugee experience and how it manifests including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety and other mental health issues.

•To offer appropriate support within a Case Management framework, including assessment, relationship building, establishment of community support and the development and review of comprehensive Case Plans.

•Provide care, supervision and personal support to clients relevant to their individual needs, abilities and circumstances with particular regard to those individuals who are assessed as high risk or exhibiting complex behavioral patterns.

•Provide support and referrals and facilitate access to other specialist support services, as required, to support them and their wellbeing.

•Active involvement in psychosocial assessment, planning, goal setting and review with each individual in collaboration with other stakeholders.

Qualifications/Accreditations:

•Tertiary qualifications in a human services discipline. (Psychology, Social Work, Social Science etc.). •Mental Health First Aid Certificate.
