Consultancy Assignment: Knowledge Sharing and Internal Communication Section, Division of Communication

As part of a team led by the Chief of Section, the consultant will be responsible for working with country offices to source stories on Equity and Innovation, including lessons learned for knowledge sharing on ICON.

Specific Tasks:

Source stories working with various divisions/Country Offices/Regional Offices and adapt them for an internal audience. Interview stakeholders to gather content and requirements.
Write content for ICON homepage and assist in the transition to SharePoint.
Provide expertise for knowledge sharing initiatives under the guidance of Chief of Section.
Evaluate success of specific products and internal campaigns.

Deliverables:

# of stories written in collaboration with the country offices, to be evaluated monthly by the Chief of Section.

Qualification and Competencies of the International Consultant

Education: University degree in social science, public information, communication or other related fields.

Work experience: Five years progressive experience in communication. Knowledge of United Nations or other international organizations and a good understanding of world affairs, current events and development issues are essential.

Languages: Fluency in English and another UN Working language desired, preferably French and/or Spanish.

Competencies:
Writing and editing, including of news and features, websites/webpages, e-mail, presentations, advertising, speeches and audiovisual.
Tactical research skills - understanding communication goals, secondary research on tools/channels or on issues, using reports generated elsewhere to evaluate products and make changes.
Knowledge of current theories and practices in communication research, and the role of mass media.
Ability to research, analyze, evaluate and synthesize information.
General ability to draft clear and concise written communication materials.
Proven ability to work part of a team.
