As a Pharmacologist  in the Division of Dietary Supplement Programs you will develop position papers, regulatory guidelines and advisory opinions on issues related to dietary supplements. Manage the review of new dietary ingredient notifications. Evaluate the necessary documents for action on petitions submitted to The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that are related to dietary supplements.

Responsible for the implementation of the laws and regulations applicable to dietary supplements.Develop theories, concepts, principles, standards and methods for evaluating the safety of dietary supplements. Oversee the communications to the public on Agency policies, guidance and information pertaining to dietary supplements.Applicant must possess the Basic Education AND Specialized Experience Requirements to be qualified for this position. 

You must meet the following Basic Qualification Requirement:

Possess a bachelor's degree or higher in an appropriate biological, medical, veterinary, or physical science, or in pharmacy that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry and physiology and 12 semester hours in pharmacology. (Courses in chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, general physiology, and animal, human, microbial, or cellular physiology may be used to meet the 30-semester hour requirement in chemistry and physiology. Courses in pharmacology, pharmacodynamics, pharmacotherapy, molecular pharmacology, and other similar subjects may be used to meet the 12-semester hour requirement in pharmacology. Courses dealing intensively with pharmacologically-oriented subjects may also be used to meet this requirement.)  AND

You must also meet the following Additional Qualification requirement to be considered for this position:

Additional Qualification Requirement, GS-15: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service, directing the clinical trials and evaluations of dietary supplement testing; identifying safety concerns with ingredients and contaminants contained in dietary supplements; developing chemical, toxicological and microbiological identification methods for the active ingredients used in dietary supplements; preparing scientific reports, manuscripts, papers or other related documents on the safety and regulatory status of dietary supplements.
