Intern iKNOW Politics Intern for Social Media and Web Marketing - New York

(date when the selected candidate is expected to start)Duration of Initial Contract :Expected Duration of Assignment :The International Knowledge Network of Women in Politics (iKNOW Politics www.iknowpolitics.org) is a joint project between UNDP, UNWOMEN, IDEA, IPU and NDI. The network  is designed to increase the number and effectiveness of women in political life by utilizing a technology enabled forum to provide access to resources, expertise and dialogue - ultimately contributing to knowledge creation on women’s political participation. iKNOW Politics brings together women involved in politics around the world to share experiences, access valuable resources and advisory services, , participate in training and capacity building programs, network and collaborate on issues of interest. Network members also have access to a cadre of experts and practitioners that can advise candidates and elected officials on how to develop and implement successful campaign and lobbying strategies or other issues with the goal of getting more women involved in politics. The network also facilitates direct contact between women leaders to share relevant experiences, challenges and success stories with one another. Additionally, the network provides an opportunity to the users to stay abreast of global events and news related to women’s political participation globally and regionally.The International Knowledge Network of Women in Politics is looking for an intern to analyze and optimize the network’s social media platforms and community management.  The ideal candidate for this position will be personally engaged in the social mediums and can use the platforms to engage with existing and draw potential iKNOW Politics users.
The tasks are therefore as follows: Analyzing iKNOW Politics’ website traffic and social media usage; Assist in tracking and effectively communicating the results and impact of iKNOW Politics; Developing a web marketing strategy; Implement a strategy to increase iKNOW Politics’ visibility; Monitoring the community’s social media accounts; Posting on social media outlets, including, but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google+; Monitoring social media trends & #hashtags; Coordinate dissemination of iKNOW Politics’ knowledge products and services, in coordination with iKNOW Politics team members, including helping to determine the best media to achieve its dissemination goals; Controlling the content pushed to iKNOW Politics’ website social media feed via a social media aggregating program; Attend team meetings and required events; Maintain constant communication with iKNOW Politics’ users and team members; Ensure the smooth implementation of all communications, knowledge management, branding and outreach activities, in coordination with all iKNOW Politics team members. Conduct any other assignments related to knowledge management, marketing, communications, branding and outreach, as may be required. Demonstrates integrity by modeling the UN’s values and ethical standards; Promotes the vision, mission, and strategic goals iKNOW Politics; Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.

Functional competencies:

Experience in communications, outreach, branding and knowledge management; Knowledge and proficiency of social media and online marketing tools; Creative and analytical; Proactive and strategic thinker; Excellent communication skills; Ability to prioritize and to take initiative and work independently with limited supervision; Ability to multi-task; Copywriting skills..Education:

Currently enrolled in a graduate-level degree programme New Media and/or Web Marketing. Only students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible (students who have graduated are not eligible). Language Requirements:

All applicants must be fluent in both written and spoken English. Working knowledge of French, Spanish or Arabic desirable. The successful candidate will be required to:

Submit a certificate from her school that s/he is enrolled in a Master's programme; Have a valid visa to work in the US; Have medical and life insurance. Financial Arrangements: 

UNDP does not pay for internships. The costs associated with the internship must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation etc.

Further Career Opportunities:

The purpose of internships is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern's studies. However, a number of interns, having completed their studies and met the necessary requirements, have gone on to further assignments within UNDP and the United Nations system.
