Mongolia: Arbitration expert

Chemonics seeks an arbitration expert for the ongoing USAID-funded Mongolia Business Plus Initiative (BPI). The project supports an enhanced role for the private sector in Mongolia's economic growth. It assists the government of Mongolia's strategy to improve business enabling environment and strengthen private sector capacity and competitiveness. Underpinning all activities, the project encourages a structured and productive dialogue between the private sector and the government of Mongolia. BPI started in June 2011 and is currently projected to end in September 2014. With a staff of 20 individuals, the project operates out of Ulaanbaatar, with some regional travel to suppliers and businesses primarily in the north. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

Assist in arbitration draft law formulation, informed by international best practicesEnable regulatory regime that accounts for both civil and common law jurisdictionsContinue project's arbitration public-private dialog efforts to inform regulation and educate stakeholdersIncrease access, scope, efficiency, transparency, and cost-effectiveness of arbitration proceedingsBolster the role of arbitration system, while harmonizing the role of the courtIncrease competition among arbiters/entities providing arbitration services

Qualifications:

Master's degree required; J.D. or LL.M. degree preferredMinimum eight years of relevant professional experienceExperience in arbitration law; alternative dispute resolution; and international arbitration systems, standards, and mediation requiredExperience working in Mongolia or other similar contexts preferredDemonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrityFluent written and spoken English required Application Instructions:
