Internship in Library and Information Management

As an intern in the Bureau of Library and Information Services (IMS), you will gain experience in work related to the design, adaption, establishment, development, operation and management of general and specialized library and information services, systems and networks to support ILO programmes and to raise awareness of ILO research and data.

You would work with specialists who are responsible for developing systems, policies, guidelines and procedures related to collection development and the management of library materials; identifying, selecting, and acquiring information in all formats; managing information resources for effective retrieval from an online catalogue and other web-based products; developing and maintaining thesauri; developing online knowledge products; designing and conducting training programmes and providing technical assistance in the development of information services; analyzing users' needs; providing research and reference services to a wide international clientele; providing outreach services through presentations and training programmes; and supporting the information needs of ILO constituents.

Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.

Required Qualifications

Education
Area of studies: Library and Information Studies, Information Management, Information science or equivalent.

Applicant should currently follow a course of study (last year of Master degree or above), or have completed studies within 12 months prior to this application.

Experience

Any relevant experience in the field of librarianship or information management. Knowledge of information management tools and techniques and information resources in the field of social science or law would be an advantage; ability to use standard MS office products (excel, word, powerpoint) would be an advantage

Languages

You should have working knowledge (both oral and written) of at least one of the ILO's official languages (English, French or Spanish).

Competencies

Adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.
