PACT careers.gif (3258 octets)
Pact's mission is to help build strong communities globally that provide people with an opportunity to earn a dignified living, raise healthy families, and participate in democratic life. Pact achieves this by strengthening the capacity of grassroots organizations, coalitions and networks and by forging linkages among government, business and the citizen sectors to achieve social, economic and environmental justice.

Working at Pact

When people walk into our offices they invariably exclaim that they would like to work here. We think this doesn’t have much to do with our decorating tastes (although we have that too), but with the warmth and friendliness they encounter. When people do work that’s meaningful and aligned with their personal values, it’s energizing and others notice—even before sitting down to talk with us. We do most of our work in teams, give anyone with a good idea a chance to run with it, and aren’t afraid of taking risks. Because we believe in what we’re doing, we sometimes work long hours. But we’re also flexible about when people come and go and encourage people to work at home unless they're needed in face-to-face meetings.
Although our headquarters staff is fewer than 40 people, we are diverse in our backgrounds (from over 15 countries), age (more under 40 than over 40) and gender (well, as diverse as two sexes can allow). Overseas, of course, our staff is even more diverse and numbers more than 250 people.
We believe in retaining good staff and will do everything we can to bridge funding gaps when a project terminates and a new one hasn’t yet begun. We also encourage staff growth and advancement, including training and professional skills building to increase knowledge and competence and to stay abreast of new developments, especially in technology.
Our benefits are some of the best you will find among nonprofit and for-profit corporations. They reflect the importance we attach to staff worth and embrace family-friendly policies as well as policies that encourage everyone to strive for a healthy balance between work and life outside of work. We think for the most part we come pretty close.

UNAIDS - Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (accesskey:1)

UNAIDS, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, brings together the efforts and resources of ten UN system organizations to the global AIDS response.

Cosponsors include UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, UNDP, UNFPA, UNODC, ILO, UNESCO, WHO and the World Bank. Based in Geneva, the UNAIDS secretariat works on the ground in more than 75 countries world wide.

    Careers at UNAIDS

As the leading advocate for worldwide action against HIV/AIDS, the global mission of UNAIDS is to lead, strengthen and support an expanded response to the epidemic that will:

    • prevent the spread of HIV
    • provide care and support for those infected and affected by the disease
    • reduce the vulnerability of individuals and communities to HIV/AIDS
    • alleviate the socioeconomic and human impact of the epidemic.

The staff of UNAIDS make up the main resource of the Programme and as such the paramount consideration in selecting and appointing staff is required to ensure the highest standards of efficiency, competence and integrity.

Selection of staff shall be without regard to race, creed or sex and, so far as is practicable, selection of staff shall be made on a competitive basis.

The medical criterion for recruitment is fitness to work in the particular post. The United Nations HIV/AIDS Personnel Policy clearly stipulates that no staff and/or potential candidates shall be discriminated against on the basis of real or perceived HIV status. HIV infection, in itself, does not constitute lack of fitness to work. There is no obligation to disclose HIV-related personal information.

The recruitment of candidates for fixed-term posts (normally two years) and short-term openings (more than six months and less than one year) at various levels within the Professional category is generally effected through vacancies published on our Internet site and the ICSC Bulletin.

Candidates are requested to carefully review the miminum requirements for advertised posts before making a decision to apply. These minimum requirements are stipulated on each vacancy announcement. Due to the volume of applications received only those candidates who are under serious consideration will be contacted.

Vacancies for posts in the General Service category are advertised within UNAIDS and can be accessed at the UNAIDS Human Resources Office. These are usually filled by local candidates, i.e. candidates residing in the Geneva area or in neighbouring France.

UNAIDS also runs an Internship programme, whose objective is to provide an opportunity for university students to acquire a working knowledge of UNAIDS and to be exposed to the work of the Programme.
