The work of this position involves direct coordination of the credentialing and privileging process of the members of the Surgical Service (Physicians, RNP's & PA(C)'s), Residents, and all others who require credentialing and privileging. Duties include but are not limited to:
Knowing state licensure and medical specialty board requirements;Receiving, reviewing and processing all applications for clinical privileges;Researching and following up on malpractice issues with the state licensing boards, insurance companies and attorneys;Maintaining a database for all time sensitive certifications and licenses;Requesting, receives, and reviews quality assurance ongoing and focused peer review process documentation from all physicians, RNP's and PA(C)'s;Following up on continuing medical education credits and working with each new/re-appointed staff member to make sure that the appointment process is understood and completed in a timely and thorough manner;Functioning as the technical advisor to Surgical Service as the liaison with the Medical Staff Office on all credentialing and privileging matters;Providing direction to nursing staff on qualifications for promotions and special advancements and preparing/submitting documentation for promotions and advancement to the various Professional Standards Boards' (PSB);Maintaining accurate, complete, and concise credentialing and privileging folders on all privileged personnel and maintaining suspense files, notating dates for follow-up;Receiving, verifying, processing and forwarding completed verification documentation to the Human Resources Office;Reviewing, evaluating, developing, and advising on all aspects of the House Staff Program involving changes in resource requirements (personnel, beepers, space, on-call rooms, supplies, equipment, etc.) and policy and procedures;Coordinating student rotations for the Boston Medical Center (working with BMC Registrar's Office to coordinate team assignments, on-call schedule, teaching sessions with subspecialties, etc.;Formulating and typing a variety of correspondence including memorandums, letters, reports, surveys, studies and other material as necessary in draft and final form;Possessing knowledge of medical terminology;Receiving and screening calls, visitors and mail to the department, responding to requests/problems when possible, and referring to appropriate staff if needed;Providing a complete and thorough orientation to new staff members;Developing and managing computerized databases to capture monthly workload statistics (i.e. admissions, discharges, autopsies and deaths; provider specific data; etc.) and producing reports; Establishing and maintaining office procedures and methods for organizing and filing administrative and clinical correspondence, committee minutes, recurring reports and surveys, and other pertinent materials; andPerforming all other related duties as assigned.Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8:00AM – 4:30PM

***RELOCATION EXPENSES AND/OR INCENTIVES ARE NOT AUTHORIZED***To qualify for this position you must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal Service. This experience is close to the work of this job and has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Credentialing Program Assistant. Specialized experience includes performing clerical and administrative support duties including providing guidance/advice to staff regarding administrative procedures; tracking information/data from electronic media; performing office automation duties using software applications such as e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, databases; composing, typing and editing letters and reports; maintaining suspense action files to ensure deadlines are met; and, utilizing knowledge of state licensure and medical specialty board requirements. This experience may have been gained while working in a large, complex healthcare/medical agency/organization.
This position also includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placements Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration.
