The Kenya National Commission on Human
Rights (KNCHR) is an independent National Human Rights Institution
created by Article 59 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and established
by the Government of Kenya through an Act of Parliament (the Kenya
National
Commission on Human Rights Act 2011) and under the United
Nations Paris Principles. KNCHR’s mandate includes furthering the
protection and promotion of human rights in Kenya, acting as a watchdog
over the Government in the area of human rights, and the provision of
leadership in moving the country towards a human rights state. KNCHR
fulfils its human rights mandate through a number of programmes,
including Research and Compliance, Public Education and Training,
Complaints and Investigations, Redress and Economic, Social and Cultural
Rights. The Commissions’ main office is in Nairobi with four regional
offices in Wajir, Kitale, Mombasa and Kisumu. Officers may serve in the
Head Office or in any of the regional offices.HUMAN RIGHTS OFFICER I: RESEARCH AND COMPLIANCE -Open

Reports to: Principal Human Rights Officer
Location: Head Office, with occasional travel
Duration: Permanent and Pensionable
Salary Range: Kshs. 141,950 – Kshs.195,500
Job Objective
- Contribute to the Implementation and achievement of the strategic objectives of the Research and compliance program.
- Description of Key duties
- Assist in the commission work on the monitoring of states compliance with international and national Human Rights obligations.
- Assist in the coordination of the Commission’s work relating to international treaty obligations
- Assist in the review of bills, policies and existing legislation with a view to infusing human rights principles
- Undertake assigned research duties, and provide support in the preparation and editing of research reports; the design of strategies for implementation and dissemination of research findings
- Coordinate meetings, workshops, conferences, debates, field studies and other related programmatic activities
- Establish and maintain networks and partnerships with relevant stakeholders
- Represent the Commission in various meetings and fora
- Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the commission
- A Degree in a social science from a recognized University
- Three years Experience in a relevant field with at least one year in a similar position
- Training on Human Rights or in carrying out legal and policy research
- Some training or exposure in legislative review and drafting
- Knowledge of UN and African Human Rights Principles and Standards
- Experience in research, policy advocacy and legislation review in a human rights/social justice or any other relevant field
HUMAN RIGHTS OFFICER II: RESEARCH AND COMPLIANCE -Open

Reports to: Principal Human Rights Officer
Location: Head Office, with occasional travel
Duration: Permanent and Pensionable
Salary Range: Kshs. 100,250-Kshs. 143,000
Job Objective
Achievement of assigned outputs in the Research and Compliance
Program which aide in framing and informing the Human Rights discourse.
DESCRIPTION OF KEY DUTIES:
- Provide programmatic support to the department’s work
- Contribute to the review of bills, policies and existing legislation with a view to infusing human rights principles
- Undertake assigned research duties, contribute to the preparation and editing of research reports; the design of strategies for implementation and dissemination of research findings
- Assist in the commission work on the monitoring of states compliance with international and national Human Rights obligations.
- Assist in the Coordination of meetings, workshops, conferences, debates, field studies and other related programmatic activities
- Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of networks and partnerships with relevant stakeholders
- Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the department
Skills, Experience and Minimum Qualifications
- A Degree in a social science from a recognized University
- One year work experience in a relevant field
- Experience in conducting research work
- Knowledge of UN and African Human Rights Principles and Standards

Location: Kisumu with field travels
Duration: Permanent and Pensionable
Salary Range: Kshs. 37,666- Kshs. 59,000
Key Duties
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out driving responsibilities for the Commission.
- Regularly assess and advice on the mechanical conditions of the Commission vehicles so as to ensure that the vehicles are in good working condition.
- Carry out minor repairs of Commission vehicles and refer where necessary to the authorized mechanical dealers.
- Picking materials/components from suppliers.
- Picking & dropping visitors and staff to and from the Airport and taking them to their required destinations.
- Informing the Administrative Officer when vehicles are due for service, expired insurance.
- Payment of utility bills and collection/delivery of office mail.
- Any other duty as directed by the Supervisor
Qualification, Experience, Skills and Attributes
- O’ level qualification
- Clean B.C.E driving license
- Over 3 years driving experience in a busy office
- Conversant with the Nyanza and Western regions
- Ready to work under pressure and at times beyond working hours
- Attention to details and a high integrity
INTERNS -Open
Position: Interns for various programmes
Duration: 12 months
Duty Station: Nairobi and Kisumu
The KNCHR’s work hinge on the following programme and support
areas: (a) Complaints and Investigations (b) Reforms and Accountability
(c) Research and Compliance (d) Public Education and Training (e)
Economic, Social and Cultural Rights , (f) Finance, (g) Human Resource
and Administration, (h) Internal Audit (1), ICT, (j) Public Affairs and
Communication and (k) Procurement.
The KNCHR invites applications from young, versatile, industrious,
