Responsibilities:
This position is located in UNEP/DEWA at the Nairobi duty station. Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Thematic Environmental Assessments and overall supervision of the Chief of the Branch, the incumbent will support the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programmes, operations and other activities of the Chemicals and Wastes project as well as assist the PROVIA (Programme of Research on Climate Change Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation Secretariat). The incumbent will be specifically responsible for the following duties:

Responsibilities:
1. Provide administrative support to the Chemicals and Wastes project and the PROVIA SSC.
2.Work with key clients to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, etc.; monitor and analyze specific aspects of programme/project development and implementation; review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and recommend corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; identify and track follow-up actions.
3. Oversee planning and implementation of project funds, track the use of financial resources, contribute to preparation of related documents/reports (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.).
4. Provide technical support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including review and analysis of project activities, participation in evaluations or research activities and studies.
5.Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, interactive sessions etc., including development of the agenda, identification of participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc.
6. Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
7. Assist in performing consulting assignments.
8.Support planning and implementation of outreach activities; participate in the development of training workshops, seminars, etc.; prepare presentations on assigned topics/activities; oversee the preparation of inputs for the PROVIA Web site and PROVIA listserv as well as inputs for UNEP-Live.
9.Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in environmental or natural science, management, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience:
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management, administration or related area and in an international setting is an added advantage. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the first level university degree recognized by the United Nations.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
