It focuses on three priorities for BiH, in line with objectives set by BiH’s national development strategy, UNDAF and the needs identified by UNDP’s Regional Disparity Survey. Under the direct supervision of the Regional Office Bihac Regional Representative, the UN Volunteer will support the implementation of activities in Una-Sana Canton and Canton 10, as follows:1. Implementation of operational strategies:Support in planning, implementation and monitoring programme/project activities, based on approved project documents;Support programme/project reporting requirements through data collection and analysis, and drafting of various programme/project related reports;Performs specific operational/control tasks for project activities, including undertaking field visits for specific monitoring and evaluation issues;2. Provides administrative and logistical support - support to effective and efficient functioning of the unit (operation unit/ administrative unit):Support to administrative and logistical services;Assist in preparation of meetings, events, training workshops, and field trips;Support to office maintenance and assets management (collection of information on assets management, maintenance of records and files on assets management, maintenance of files and records relevant to office maintenance);Assists reporting, budget presentations, project revisions, rendering of accounts and all other technical support for the good functioning of the programme and its financial, logistical and administrative control;Maintenance of files and records relevant to office, records on assets management, preparation of reports ensuredAdministrative support to organization of conferences, workshops, retreats;Provide general office support and perform administrative tasks, as requested by supervisor.Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to:Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible. Overall, it is expected that the Coordination Assistant will contribute to:Overall implementation of activities through provision of support to programme staff;Overall enhanced visibility and recognition of UNDP’ projects and initiatives;A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during your assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed;Support to and participation in at least 2 UNV Field Unit initiatives (International Volunteer Day, contribution of articles, etc.);

Living Conditions:
The UN designated state of alert for Bosnia and Herzegovina is “NO PHASE” (“NO PHASE” for the entire country including the capital Sarajevo). The Designated Official for Security downgraded the phase from Phase One in August 2007.
The situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is generally quiet; all international agencies consider threats to their staff to be low at this time. However, BiH has the same problems as much of Europe, from pickpockets to traffic accidents, so please make sure you exercise appropriate personal security awareness and common sense.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country with the largest mine contamination problem. Over 670.000 mines and 650.000 unexploded ordinances on 10.000 locations estimated. Contaminated area estimated is over 2.000 km2 which is more than 4 % of the total territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Staff is advised to stay on well-travelled routes while in the country. Conditions of Service
A 12 - month contract (initially); monthly volunteer living allowance (VLA) intended to cover housing, basic needs and utilities, equivalent to 876.00BAM; life, health, and permanent disability insurance; resettlement allowance for satisfactory service.
