Assume responsibilities for the ISI as the main secretary for the Programme, assisting the day to day management and operation of programme activities such as fund-raising, programme outreach, event coordination and logistics, writing, editing, translation and other tasks;
Assist the operation of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI) network as a part of its secretariat;
Assume greater responsibilities in public outreach, promoting ISI activities, especially ones related to IPSI and work to relevant audiences, including the Japanese community, academic institutions, foundations, the private sector, and the general public;
Make where appropriate, and within the ability of the Programme Associate, research contributions to projects under the ISI, and;
Perform any other duties as may be assigned or required by the Programme Director.
Required qualifications and experience
A bachelor’s degree (a masters’ degree would be preferable) in the area of environment, development, social sciences, public policy or a related discipline;
At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a related area. Work experience in international organizations or promoting major international initiatives is an asset;
Excellent communication skills with proficiency in both oral and written English and Japanese;
Knowledge and working experience of organization of conferences, logistical and financial arrangements desirable;
A good team player with strong inter-personal skills, demonstrated by the ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity; and
Excellent analytical skills as well as demonstrated ability to multi-task and to manage own workload and schedule to deliver timely results.
