EmailPosition Summary & Responsibilities: International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.
Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.
PROGRAM BACKGROUND
International Medical Corps is currently implementing approximately 15 programs across nine sites in South Sudan. Through nearly 50 health facilities in urban and rural areas, International Medical Corps provides basic health care and integrated service provision, from preventative care to emergency surgery. International Medical Corps also runs programs in HIV/AIDS, nutrition, food security, and water and sanitation projects. To address South Sudan’s acute health worker shortage, and foster self-reliance, International Medical Corps trains health professionals and community volunteers.
In addition to the above, International Medical Corps is also providing emergency medical services out of four sites to tens of thousands of people who were displaced by the crisis started from 15th December 2013. Simultaneously, the organization is in the process of increasing its surge capacity and ramping up programming in order to respond to the countrywide emergency humanitarian needs emerging from the conflict erupted in December 2013.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support the development and implementation of appropriate plans to monitor progress, evaluate effectiveness, and disseminate achievements.
• Maintain data collection systems, ensuring that all necessary information from routine reporting are collected, analyzed and used in guiding internal project planning.
• Conduct appropriate analysis, including the use of complimentary data sets and secondary analysis.
• Devise TOR for initiation of base line studies and routine and periodic monitoring of outputs and outcome
• Document and disseminate activities and accomplishments of different interventions in the form of reports, and oral presentations.
• Develop technical capacity of national professionals engaged in implementation of the M&E system at both program and project level
• Develop and institutionalize appropriate systems and tools for data quality assurance.
• Engage in discussion with other organizations for developing and promoting good practices for monitoring and evaluation. Where feasible participate in joint evaluation/assessment of International Medical Corps programs in cooperation with partners.
• Ensure that International Medical Corps grants or contracts held by programs and projects in South Sudan are well administered (including maintenance of comprehensive grant files).
• Ensure timely, accurate and compelling reporting on all grants and contracts to donors.
• Participate in grant opening and closing meetings.
• Assist field staff in monitoring implementation of activities under grants and contracts (including gathering and analysis of performance data).
• Assist senior management and field staff in developing funding proposals for projects.
• Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps. Skills & Requirements: •Degree-level qualification in Social Science, Public Health, Nutrition, Development Studies or a related field, including studies relating to research and statistical analysis; Master’s degree highly preferred;
•At least two years experience managing M&E in an international NGO context;
•Strong knowledge of donor reporting – particularly for USAID, OFDA, ECHO and UN agencies;
•Demonstrated experience in applying quantitative and qualitative/participatory research methods;
•Capacity to build the research and M&E skills of colleagues and community members;
•Ability to write clearly and concisely and to translate complex concepts into non-technical language;
•Operational knowledge of primary and secondary health care, WASH, nutrition and gender principles as they apply to development work;
•Excellent communication skills, including fluency in oral and written English;
•Excellent writing skills, and ability to produce high-quality documents for external audiences with minimal editing;
•Proficiency in using standard computer software, especially MS Office programs;
•Proficiency in using statistical analysis software, such as SPSS;
•Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines under pressure;
•Highly flexible, and able to live/work in a challenging and highly demanding context; Able to work in remote field sites – sometimes for extended periods – with limited comforts; Other Relevant Information (if applicable):
